Weekend in Quebec City

Geir and I had the privilege of being shown around in Quebec City by some local friends. With the battles between the English and the French in the 18th century to capture this important site, one can truly say that Canada started here.

Quebec City on the shore of St. Lawrence River, its tides reminding us the occupation of the colonists.

The citadel built to defend against the American revolutionaries in the early 19th century, who never attacked Quebec City.

A soldier’s wedding. The building in the background was constructed to defend any uprising from the citizens of Quebec and was never actually used for that purpose.

Old Quebec, with its landmark of Chateau Frontenac.

The lower section of the wall curved inward to facilitate the turning of horse carriages.

Montmorency Falls, 30 metres higher than Niagara Falls.
